Why We Gave the Haywards Heath Business Association Logo an Update

You may have noticed that the Haywards Heath Business Association has had a little bit of a logo update.

As a committee member of HHBA, I wanted to share a little insight into why we made the change, how we approached it, and why sometimes a brand refresh does not need to mean starting again from scratch.

At Branding Box, we often talk to businesses about the difference between a full rebrand and a brand evolution. For HHBA, this was very much an evolution.

Why the logo needed updating

The previous HHBA logo already had strong recognition within the local business community. Members knew it, local businesses recognised it, and it had become a familiar part of the association’s identity.

However, there was one key issue.

The old logo did not clearly say “Haywards Heath” within it. It did include “Business Association”, but this was quite difficult to read, especially when used at smaller sizes online, on social media, or in digital communications.

For an organisation whose purpose is to connect and support local businesses in and around Haywards Heath, we felt the logo needed to communicate more clearly who HHBA is and what it does.

Evolution, not revolution

The aim was not to create a completely new identity.

We wanted to keep as much of the existing logo as possible, because it already had valuable brand recognition. A complete rebrand would have meant unnecessary extra cost, time and disruption.

Instead, the goal was to gradually evolve the logo and make it work harder.

We focused on making the words “Haywards Heath Business Association” clearer, simpler and easier to read. We also introduced a modern, clean font that helps the association feel more recognisable and professional across different platforms.

Making the brand easier to understand

A good logo should make things easier for people.

With the refreshed HHBA logo, people can quickly see that it represents a business association. They can also clearly see that it is connected to Haywards Heath.

That clarity is important. It helps improve brand recognition, makes the association easier to identify, and supports HHBA’s role in bringing local businesses together.

A practical approach to branding

Not every brand needs a huge transformation.

Sometimes, the most effective changes are the subtle ones. Small improvements to clarity, readability and consistency can make a big difference to how a business or organisation is perceived.

For HHBA, the refreshed logo keeps the familiarity of the existing brand while making it more useful, more modern and easier to recognise.

That is what a good brand refresh should do.

Thinking about refreshing your brand?

If your logo or visual identity no longer clearly communicates who you are, what you do, or where you fit in the market, it may be time to take a fresh look.

A brand refresh can help you keep what is already working, while improving the parts that no longer feel clear, current or effective.

At Branding Box, we help businesses evolve their brand identity in a practical and thoughtful way, without change for the sake of change.
